Default turbo ls1 foxbody

hey guys thought I would share a project I been working on for a buddy. hes on the forum he will probably chime in, I've been telling him to make a build thread but he's been slacking. definitely a car your going to see around next spring.

the cars an 86 foxbody. last year it had a mildly built 5.0 in it. he sold the motor and bought an ls1. he had a th400 built by Gregoire Racing Transmissions. he got the motor and trans in the car and then bought it to my garage so i could start making the turbo kit.

I wanted to learn to tig weld so I figured now would be a good time to learn. hes using a borg warner s480 which is a pretty heavy so I started by making a turbo mount.

then got the turbo mounted looks huge in there

started piping up the hotside. we used truck manifolds reversed. im super picky so this took me a while.

then took it apart and he had it all ceramic coated. the black ceramic has a higher temp rating.

I had to figure out how to mount this massive intercooler so he could still run the front bumper cover without cutting it apart. ended up drilling holes in the shock absorber things on the front to relieve the pressure and building a mount out of 1x1. its very sturdy.

shes getting there. next is to pipe all the intercooler piping and get most of the wiring routed on the motor and hopefully fire it up.

No he wanted to go fast we all know a cobra drivetrain would have been sick, but the whole bang for the buck thing ls is the way to go. One thing he did screw up is it should have been a 5.3 or 4.8 the take much more boost. But it might get changed after.

My car is getting there still waiting on the motor. Been buying odds and ends like crazy so I can have almost everything ready when I get the motor. Had a budy of mine paint some valve covers and my timing cover dsg for me should look good. I'll update it soon with a couple pics of the stuff painted. And a couple pics of the motor.

Well I think that all depends on how loud that exhaust is. You can see in the pictures there's not much to it. He would like to drive it on the street. But if that exhaust is super loud I'm going to have to figure out how to get it out the back of the car. Probably going to require some notching of the fire wall or might be able to sneak it through the fender.

I'm commending the man on his high quality work.....

Its just a shame the owner chose to put a boat anchor under the hood instead of a real engine
