Venom351R's 351W, Rear end, Exhaust project
Been awhile since Ive posted on here, been awhile since driving the Mustang. Last time it actually ran was september of 2010. 2011 was not a good year, planned on getting it running again but money and time frame issues all became a factor so it sat with the engine mostly assembled. I'm now at the point where it should be running in May. I'll start from the beginning.

Came to the conclusion that my oil leaking issues from the intake were due to a intake bolt hole in the head that was stripped ( 2 of them ) The heads were AFR 185's with 72cc Combustion chambers, great for boost not so much for N/A. Made the decision to take the heads off and sell them.

Decided as well that I was going to get some parts powder coated since I had it all torn apart so I stripped down the Victor EFI 5.8 Intake

repainted the valve covers.

Intake powder coated, also had the accessory brackets done.

Oh yes there was a cylinder head upgrade in here as well. These are custom CNC Ported 234HR High Ports from Ed Curtis 64cc Combustion Chambers. Flow Numbers....

Lift Intake Exhaust
.100" 80 .58
.200" 142 115
.300" 196 150
.400" 258 190
.500" 304 215
.550" 320 220
.600" 333 222
.650" 340 230
.700" 334 236
.750" 340 238

And the cylinder heads....

Only one thing left to do after you get them of course  PVC was also checked before bolting them down.

For the most part the engine was fully assembled. This is as far as I got by the end of the year in 2011. I had the long tubes but was not able to send them off to be coated.

Speaking of long tubes... Accufab 1 3/4 with 3" primary's

Early this spring I came to the conclusion that I should get the rear end rebuilt.

Venom351R 04-10-2012 08:41 AM

To go along with the rear end I decided to get a set of Team Z solid bushings and double adjustable upper control arms.

Got the rear end back from Ford and installed back in with the help of a friend.

Bought a Mac 3" prochamber to connect to the long tubes.

So as of now that brings this up to the current date. The long tubes have been sent off to be coated and I plan on buying a Borla cat back system next month. I have to buy an aftermarket steering shaft b/c of the long tubes, all the exhaust connections, oil, coolant, cats and that should pretty much do it. This started off as just replacing the cylinder heads but a lot of other things got done in the meantime. Should be all set sometime this may then I'll have to get it retuned and then finally I'll make it back to the track to hopefully click off some 11 second N/A runs. Where in the 11's I'm not sure Ive had responses all over the place about it. Before hand with the other cylinder heads my compression was 8:4 and it had 344 RWHP. With these heads I have 9:7 compression and the rear suspension upgrades should help it hook even more so needless to say it should be an exciting year as long as everything goes well as long as it its up and running next month

Glad you'll be back in the game finally, I know how it goes you upgrade on thing, then another, and another lol. Nice work all around

Sweet build, those are some serious flow numbers!! I remember this car from FFW a few years ago.

Venom351R 04-10-2012 11:50 AM

Thanks guys, and I plan on being back for Tasca day this year. Once I get this combo all squared away I'm thinking of doing some Nitrous down the road further if I want to make a run at some 10's. But thats after I get everything all squared away currently.

Forgot to mention the heads are 2.05 valves and 1.60 exhaust.

Venom351R 04-10-2012 03:57 PM

well here is what I accomplished today and how it currently sits in the garage

I know your probably thinking, big deal you got the rear wheels on lol. Well its what finally putting on the rear wheels means. I'm done working on the rear end. I set the pinion angle this after noon and reconnected the drive shaft. So now I no longer have to get in and out from under the back side so the rear wheels could go back on and it finally looks mostly like a car again :)

Headers came back today after being ceramic coated.

mellis 04-21-2012 11:45 PM

That looks awesome, how much did that cost you?

Venom351R 04-22-2012 06:37 AM

They were $200 and $50 shipping each way. I had them sent to Joplin MO to a place called performance coatings on the reccomendation of a friend who had his headers coated by them

TheCat033 04-22-2012 10:01 PM

Those look mint dude

Venom351R 04-23-2012 07:24 AM

almost a shame that most of all that shineyness will be under the car and the rest only seen when the hood is open.

Venom351R 04-29-2012 05:31 PM

Finished off the rest of the engine today. Just have to get a PS Pump cap and waiting for the spark plugs to ship to me. Had to return the set I had and the others are on back order until the 11th of May. On the 16th I'll be ordering the Borla cat back system and that weekend I'll have a few extra hands to help with installing the long tubes and the rest of the exhaust system then I'll cross my fingers and hope it starts and runs.

mellis 04-29-2012 07:31 PM

Just ordered some plugs for mine too. What did you go with? I got some Autolite 25's. Seemed to have great reviews, and i didnt wanna go any steps colder since im N/A. Well see how well they work haha
